Software & Systems

The following software & systems were developed by the SIMS lab:

  • FirMapSim -- A web application featuring a map-based wildland fire simulation tool that allows users to simulate wildfires and prescirbed fire with dynnamic ignitions. As part of the smart and safe prescribed fire project, a special focus of this tool is to support understanding and learning of prescirbed fires under various weather condition and ignition techniques. It can also be used as a planning tool to allow landowners to choose their own lands of interest on the map and set up simulations to plan prescribed burns. This tool is still under develpment with constant updates. A snapshot of a map-based prescribed fire simulation is given below:

  • DEVS-FIRE API -- DEVS-FIRE API provides a set of API methods for the DEVS-FIRE model. DEVS-FIRE is a discrete event wildland fire simulation model. It has several sub-models to support different types of wildland fire simulations, including fire spread simulation, fire suppression simulation, and prescribed fire simulation with dynamic ignitions. The developed DEVS-FIRE API allows developer and researchers from all over the world to use the DEVS-FIRE model to run simulations by programming to an API. The simulations are run on the DEVS-FIRE simulation server in the cloud, and the simulation results are returned to users through the API. Visit the DEVS-FIRE API webpage for more details. A screenshot of a wildfire spread simulation using the DEVS-FIRE API is given below:

  • Agent-based Simulation of Child Maltreatment (CM) and CM Prevention  -- A web-based interface that allows users to set up a virtual community and run simulation to easily compare the impact of different factors and CM Prevention/intervention strategies in affecting the quality of child care and other related outcomes (e.g., parenting stress, parental efficacy, social support). A snapshot of the user interface is given below.

  • BehaviorSim -- A behavior-based agent simulation environment. It allows users to define and simulate autonomous agents following the behavior-based control paradigm.A snapshot of the user interface is given below.
